Ok quickly taken and dried out piccys (dropped camera in spare tank....doh!)

These piccys are of the 4 lads in their tank and the 5 dumb lasses in their tank. Note the lasses have 4ft to swim around in, so Arwen is in the weed while 4 try and occupy the same molecule sized space in the corner...women!

Tweak - leucistic approx 300mm = 3 years
Gizmo - melanoid approx 275mm = 2 years
Sirius - wildtype approx 250mm = 15 months
Cobweb - golden Albino approx 200mm = 10 mths (best guesses)

I'll post some better piccys of the dumb lasses later. So far all are excellent eaters and have amazingly good health. The lasses are all of similar size and age, colour for colour except Moonpie who is a melanoid albino and measures less than 200...butis a cutie so can be forgiven.

Mikki - lovely photos. Is that a hydor heater or is it one of those titatium jobbies?
 
The heater is a Hydor unit I think, 200W.
I'll check when I get home. I bought it because temp plummeted to about 12C.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
