Default How to get bullfrog tads that just turned to frogs to eat?

In the past I had 4 bullfrogs tadpoles, all the tadpoles were fat and healthy. When the first one turned into a froglet it was plump, but no matter what I could never get it to eat anything. I tried pinhead crickets, fruit flies, and small earthworms. The frog stayed in the water all the time, so when they prey fell in the water they were slow and easy to catch, but it never lunged at them, and after 2 weeks it was skin and bones wasting away. After that I gave them all away to someone who had a backyard pond so mabye they had a chance to survive.

Why did the young frog not eat anything, I thought bullfrogs were voracious eaters? I couldn't believe how hard it was to keep the frog alive! I gave up on raising any tadpoles after that fearing they would all end up dieing when they turned into frogs.

I once found some bullfrog tadpoles in a pond a miles from my house, and raised them up fine. They fed well on feeder fish. Not sure why yours didn;t work out'?

Are bullfrogs local there? I hope so, because they are a nasty invasive species when introduced into new places.

I'm wondering if maybe, despite being fat and healthy as a tadpole, it morphed too small. I would expect a newly-morphed bullfrog to be large enough to eat regular crickets, for example. Just a thought.

Bullfrogs are in every pond by me, but not too common, as we dont have many ponds really. This was a backyard pond someone built in their yard I gave to, not a "natural" pond.

The bullfrog was large enough to eat the prey, the issue was it refused to eat. I fed smaller prey because if it's learning to eat I didnt want to start it on large prey, like adult crickets, that may try to bite it as it's learning to eat. The worms for sure were large enough for it to see, and small enough to eat, why it never tried to eat is the question?
