I am starting an account here to learn how to better provide for my Caudata. I just recently got my baby albino Axolotl from my local aquarium shop.
I put him in a 10 gallon for now because he is so tiny. I am using a Dive Clean internal filter with a spray bar. The aquarium is heavily planted with black sand and large decorative rocks. I switched his lighting from a fluorescent to a LED light system for heat purposes and I also run aqua cool fans to keep his temp between 67-68.

I do have a question for those reading though - is it alright to turn off his filter whenever I'm feeding him? I've noticed that it moves the blood worms and brine shrimp around and its a little hard for him to eat because he's so slow. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm thinking about paying for a feeding dish with a tube.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
