hi... i found a long-toed salamander outside almost frozen to the sidewalk tonight and i have since brought him/her inside and made him/her a make-shift home... but as far as what to feed it im totally lost, i've never had any amphibian's before so i dont even know where to start... any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated..

keep it cool and damp and in an escape proof container-if it gets out and crawls under the sofa its a gonner..check out this care sheet -it will work for that guy...http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Ambystoma/A_tigrinum.shtml

temp and humidity are crucial for salamanders general health -they can tolerate some variance but extended periods of heat or dry can weaken them and eventually lead to death.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
