Since i got my 3 babies one has always been a little smaller than the other 2. I posted a question on this a few weeks back and everyone replied it was normal which i believe.

Today, just not i about to feed my babies and i look at the smallest and she is really really really small...I did not even notice last night... She was biger than she is now. She was active and eating and now she is still (but not dead), not eating and really really skinny. And she is curling her gut upwards.

She is really vainy and her gills are pointed forward.

Now dont get me wrong i constantly check to see if they are ok and i admit i have never seen any of them like this before.

I am really worried that she is going to die. I have put her in another small container and drop some pellets into see if she will eat. But i doubt it. She is barely moving and to me she looks really ill.

Upon closer inspectection of her body she appears to have a fungus on the tip of her tail and on her right front foot.

I have included some pictures(it may look like she is partially out of water but i assure you there is enough cover over her) below to help people identify the problem and hopefully assist me in getting her healthy.

Please help me.

hi,
yes she does look sick and listless check out the health link on this page -there are some questions like yours in the FAQ link
http://www.axolotl.org/health.htm

basically they recommend cold treatment to help it along-but there is also a mention about forward gills and its tied to filtration systems-check the site out-you may find exactly what you are looking for

Nope filtration is good. Others are not affected by it. Also the filter has been off for the last 2 days as it isnt working proply and in the process of troubleshooting it.

I've checked the health page and nothing has seemed to give me an answer.

I have to agree with Paris, axies do the gill forward thing when the current is too strong. But if yours doesn't have a current, then I am unsure of what is wrong with her. Poor girl looks very sick.

I would take her to a vet, because she may be in need of antibiotics.

i'll see what i can do in the morning.

Do i take her to a normal vet or do i have to take her to a special type of vet?

call around for a vet that has experience in them. i had to go through 3 vets before i found one both good with amphibs and willing to learn new stuff. most small animal vets will try to take care of amphibs, but one of my previous vets was a turtle guy and still he didnt work for me. you can use vets for reference to other vets-most will know if someones got a specialty-so call around lots of places and see if one name keeps coming up.

there was a post a while a go that recommend a few vets around sydney that specialized in axolotols. It was somewhere in the sick axies section. Hope your axie gets better soon!

how cool is your water? i would give a salt bath and after that add a small amount of salt (NOT salt bath concentration) to her water to help with the fungus problem. i would seriously consider putting her in the fridge.

What kinds of foods have you tried her on?
if she doesnt want pellets try something else! shes awful skinny!
If shes not in the fridge yet get her in there ASAP! it should slow down any bacterial infections...
Mild salt baths should help with the fungus.

Hope she gets better soon!
