Has anyone had experience with the metamorphosis process reversing before it was complete? I have 3 barred salamanders, all of which started to undergo metamorphosis at the same time. Two are finished and the last transformed half way and stopped. The gills are growing back and the fins on the tail are becoming taller. It seems it was not ready to leave the water yet. Is this a rare occurrence? If so, do such individuals remain in the larval form, or will it most likely complete its metamorphosis soon?
I bet there is not definite answer to this question, I will probably have to wait and see. I am just curious, as I am new to these amphibians.

Your absolutely right. After his month long pause the tiger has continued its metamorphosis two days ago and is nearly finished. Two or three more days and he is going in with the others in the terrestrial habitat. I am amazed at how fast these creatures can change.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
