Hello, My name is Nick, I'm from Chalk River Ontario Canada. I have a Blue Spotted Salamander which was given to me by my mother inlaw, she found it in her nephews basement. Right now we have our little guy in a small plastic childs aquarium, i need a little help in setting up a nice little home for my salamander, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Nick!

Take a look at at Caudata Culture for starters. While there is not a specific cares sheet for
Ambystoma laterale there, there is care sheets for other very similar Ambystomidae you will find helpful. (Quite a few of them have similar care!) There is also a ton of very useful general caudate care information on that site also!

In addition, try out the forum search function using laterale and blue spotted as keywords. A bit of digging around the forums will find you some more helpful information on this species.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
