I'm new to this site. I'm preparing my tank(a little over 10 gallons) for one axolotl. It's been running-Without any creatures-for about four weeks. I have a filter (does not cause much disturbance in water), a thermometer (Temperature is at 64 degrees Fahrenheit), the water has been tested and is stable at the moment, and I have recently added fine sand, which has settled nicely, and I also bought frozen bloodworms(I know I should be feeding it earthworms, but I feel like I should wait until I have the axolotl and test it's reaction to bloodworms before I obtain those.) I came here because although I have done quite a bit of research by myself, I would feel incredibly guilty if such a fascinating creature became stressed or sickly. So really, my reason for posting this was to ask somebody experienced in axolotl care if I am missing anything. Thank you for reading!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
