Hi all!

My name is Amber, and I am currently living on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. I put Boston as my location on my profile because that’s where I was born, and I will be moving back to the city in a few months.

I joined this site because I am a new carer of two axolotls. My Animal Development lab had eggs from a precious student’s breeding axies, and we watched them grow in class. After they hatched, my professor gave us the option of taking them home if we wanted. Not many people were interested, which is why I ended up with two!

I am also a loving dog mom (I’ll attach a picture of her as well). She is currently super jealous of all the time and attention I’ve shifted to the axies.

I’m a Marine Biology student (and hopefully will be a graduate student soon), but that has not prepared me well for freshwater animal care unfortunately. This site has already been so helpful in answering my questions, and I wanted to join in on the fun!

Thanks to those of you that read this! See you around, maybe!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
