Bloat Axolotl Help!!

8 years old axolotl very bloated since some time ago. Red veins all over the body and his gills had disappeared in the last week.

Went to the vet and put antibiotics. It stayed in vet for 5 days in fridge with no response.

Now it's at home again (still in fridge) but It's really fat!! For me it seems liquid retention. Maybe kidney deisseas??

What would you do? Try to make some salt baths or euthanasia?

Oh wow that is a very bloated axolotl! I think I remember seeing something similar a few months ago, I will try and find it.
Is the axolotl eating at all? And do you have readings for the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

Did the vet say anything about fluid retention/organ failure? Or if they need to drain the axolotl?
Don't do salt baths as this is reserved for fungal infections. I would go back to the vet and get the axolotl reassessed, maybe your axolotl needs another treatment of the antibiotics?

The problem is that there is no expert vets with axolotls around here. I paid this vet a fortune and I feel she did nothing!!! So I don't know what to do.

Today I will put the axi back to the aquarium ( no more fridge) I made the salt baths because I read it helps with liquid retention but I quit today because it bleeded on the gills.

My plan is to finish the antibiotics and next week I will ask the vet if she can drain the axolotl...

I feel sad

Maybe the antibiotics need some time to kick in, see how he is after the antibiotics are all used. Search the forums here for bloat and how to reduce it. Maybe fridging can help?

After 2 weeks on the fridge, the antibiotics are over and now its back on the aquarium. She is still Bloated buf It looks better, less bloated, bigger gills, less red veins and eating (not too much but eating)

What do you think? looks better? what would you do?

Looks much less red and slightly smaller, so that's a good sign. If you notice more floating pop him back in the fridge.
Is there a vet near you who maybe has experience with at least amphibians? This way they have some experience with similar animals and can drain him (if that is what is needed).

Also sorry do you have the readings for the tanks ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? This will help with the gills.
