I passed out for over 10 hours because its been my only opportunity to actually get some rest in quite a while but I think shortly after I got to sleep my power cut out (it was off when I woke up). My sponge was all dried out, Mud spat up last night's food when I checked on them and the Ammonia was at 2! (I was already trying to cycle it from new as my last filter packed up on me and I threw the whole thing away without thinking.)
Pulled them out into a tub with fresh water and did a 90% water change.

My question is; my Goldfish tank has an internal filter so hasn't dried out - would it be safe to use this to help out my filter? What would be the best way to do this? (bearing the poor fish in mind too)

I would just do some water changes and get the tank cycled. Leave the other filter in the goldfish tank, but maybe borrow some media and put it in the axolotl filter/tank to help it along. You can tub the axolotl until the tank is sorted if that's possible for you!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
