T. Carnifex do "the dance"

My T. carnifex 3:2 are doning their mating attire and have been showing their courting rituals...tail wag, sniff, etc. It very cool to see. I found one unfertile egg wrapped in my elodea plant...I'm taking a deep breath and will see what happens

My female is looking quite rotund and plump and the males crest is at full show (I think...1st season with this species).

Cool Al. My carnifex could not get it together this year...the males crested, the female was plump, but nothing happened. I even saw the female folding leaves numerous times as if laying, but no eggs were laid. Weird huh? The males have since lost their crests.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
