London, UK: 2010 Caudata.org Grant for Salamander Conservation and Research

Caudata.org, the Internet's Newt and Salamander Portal, and Amphibian Ark, the world's leading organisation dedicated to the conservation of endangered species of frogs, salamanders, and other amphibians, today jointly announce the 2010 Caudata.org Grant for Newt and Salamander research.

The Caudata.org grant is an annual award composed of funds raised by the members of Caudata.org to support conservation of caudates. There is a strong preference for supporting projects that involve biologists from the species’ native country. Grant amounts vary annually based on the year’s fundraising success.

The 2009 Grant was awarded to the the Chaves-Portilla research group in Colombia for their project "Pandi mushroom-tongue salamander Project: Conservation status assessment of a threatened Andean salamander from Colombia".

In the international spirit of Caudata.org and Amphibian Ark, applications are welcome from around the world.

The 2010 Grant amount is US$ 1000. The application deadline is 1 May 2010. The grant award date is 1 June 2010.

The Application Form is attached to this release. Applications should be sent electronically to 2010-grant@caudata.org to arrive no later than 1 May 2010.

Is it for native countries only? I would be interested in helping the Axolotl population by relocating them to man-made freshwater lakes and ponds. I have been trying to do independent studies on the ecology of certain lakes and ponds in comparison to their natural habitat and, more importantly, habitats they can easily adapt to.

Just to let everyone know, the closing date has passed and several grant applications have been received. The voting process will start in about 7-10 days and the winning proposal will be announced on June 1st. We will contact the winning applicant(s) then.
