So i fridged my axo for 3 weeks now and one day he pooped out everything. some kinda white mucus looking thing and some black sand. i kept him in the fridge and all of a sudden hes getting bloated again. also hes not eating. hasnt ate for 4 weeks now

See articles in my sig on Caudata Culture and scroll down to "health and illness" articles. Maybe something there will help.

Good luck!

What have you tried feeding him?

I tried feeding him pellets.. the same.pellets I always have him but he doesn't want them any more. Tried giving him beefheart and he doesn't want that either

If you can get some earthworms give them a try. They are better nutritionally and axies usually go crazy for them!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
