Just got done making this filter with a canister(reused), air pump, rocks, sponge, and some
elbow grease :p Seems to be working out okay. Dagger likes it a lot more than the other
filter. He's been exploring around a lot more. My tank doesn't look that appealing right now
but once I get a bigger tank I will start working more on the decor. It's a lot easier to keep clean without a bunch of junk in there.

I used some panty hose and rocks to weigh down the plants and that seems to be working well. The next step will be setting my other ten gallon tank up and adding sand substrate and cycling it with some live plants and then make a moss wall backdrop. :)

Let me know what you think. I wish my camera was better so you could see dagger in detail ha. He's a cute little one. His gills are developing really fast :D He's already doubled in size since I got him 3 weeks ago!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
