Tiger Salamander & Axolotl (Ambystoma tigrinum, A. mavortium spp, etc.) The Tiger Salamanders and the Axolotl are so popular amongst hobbyists that they have been given their own topic. If you're particularly interested in the Axolotl, there is a large section of the forum devoted mainly to beginner Axolotl enthusiasts (not this topic).

Default Can anyone help me identify what subspecies this is?

A few weeks ago i adopted this guy from some owners who had caught him in South Colorado and kept him for a few years. They didnít feel like he could survive in the wild again so I took him. I was just curious, can anyone tell me what subspecies he is?

It is a barred tiger salamander, also known as the western tiger salamander. Fun fact- (Ambystoma mavortium) was designated the official state amphibian of Colorado in 2012.
