In praise of the alpine newt

Hi guys! I really loved seeing your older alpines because I get to see how nice my juveniles will become. I'm new to the hobby as I've had an eastern newt previously but nothing else. I now have 2 alpines, a male and a female, that I recently got from Michael Shrom. I now have to say "Michael Shrom is the bomb!"

Both pictures are of my male alpine. My female was hiding under some rocks or something. I'll need to get a picture of her too.

I am also a proud new newt parent of 4 Italian alpines from Michael Shrom. Our newts are family mate! :happy: Just over a week now and I've already witnessed breeding behavior. I can watch these magnificent creatures for hours.

ive never even appreciated the beauty of this species before just wow oh wow im thinking i may have to source some my self ,thanks for the pics of arm twisting guys haha

Here's a couple of recent snaps of my young alpines. They've really kept me guessing as to what sex they are. Out of the three I thought were all females, two of them are actually males! Mind you I'm not complaining, they really are stunning, and they're not even a year old yet.

those are beautiful. i've been looking for alpine newts in canada for a while now but no luck, no one seems to have them! I wonder if its possible to ship from europe

I really wish I could sell some of these to you. I have several tanks filled with juveniles needing homes. I'm selling them to several pet shops in my state, directly via fb and criaglist ads; and I still have dozens of them. At least I have them all eating voraciously on sinking ZooMed newt pellets. It's a lot cheaper then the live blackworms I raised them on

Here we go again, another year's gone in a flash, but at least it means it's Alpine breeding time once more!
Each season they seem to get a little bigger and a little brighter, their bellies are steadily getting a deeper orange as well.
Sometimes, when I see more exotic species available I think about moving the Alpines on to make a space, and each spring I'm glad I didn't.

Another breeding season for the alpines here as well. They seem to be like Tribbles here, they just keep multiplying.

Yep, my 2.4 adult group is gearing up, too (at least the males are, anyway) and the 1.1 juveniles I kept from 2015 are looking and acting like mini versions of their parents

Such grand little newts!

Is it fair to say that apuanus more often have that faint band of yellow/brown between the black spotted band and the dorsal blue, compared to alpestris and cyreni? That seems to be the case to me from the pictures I've seen.
