I've thought for ages that Coa was a boy. Now I've been saying girl because I've seen no testicles from the sides. Recently I've noticed that while there are no bumps seen from the side, when viewed from the bottom 'she' appears to have two big ones!! What on Earth is my gender?? She's 10 months old.

Males can be sexed from six months but can take up to two years, most are sexable by twelve months.

if the bump was bigger on the sides i'd think male, if it still looks the same when they hit 16 months i'd say female

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
