Are these ever in the hobby? Not wanting to keep any because they are rare, but if you do keep any, could you provide pictures of them and their set-up? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure A. cingulatum are federally protected. Other closely related species like Ambystoma annulatum and Ambystoma bishopi are also federally protected.

I know that they are protected, I was wondering if anyone in the U.S or elsewhere keeps/breeds them

Because of their protection they can't be obtained. So no one in the USA should have them or anywhere else.

A.cingulatum and A.bishopi are federally protected. I don't think A.annulatum is, but it's protected in its peripheral states and Missouri doesn't allow export of its herps.

Correct, bishopi and cingulatum are both federally protected. The only people working with cingulatum legally are the Amphibian Foundation based in Georgia, they has also distributed some of their offspring to Zoos and whatnot.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
