Default I think my little guy is sick. Help

I am really concerned. I have only had my axie for three days now and I have been stressing non-stop, thinking that i have not done something right. At first my axie was swimming around a lot, almost trying to 'escape'. I checked the water and everything was as it should and it seems that for now he has calmed down and is a bit more content with his new home. However, today I noticed what looked like a small white patch just below one of his 'feathers' or 'filaments'. I have never kept an axolotl before so I cannot be 100% confident whether this is a fungal infection or if I am just being paranoid. I have read a lot about salt baths and keeping my axie in the fridge. I am concerned that putting him in the baths and fridge will be a too sudden change considering that he has just seemed to settle into his new tank. Should I do it anyway just in case it is a fungal infection or should I wait maybe another day and see whether it progresses.
All help is really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Groldigger,

Could you provide some photos of the growth?

Have you added any chemicals to the tank?

What are the water parameters and temperature?

Fridging is a non-invasive and safe treatment for axies. You can safely fridge your axie if you worry about about any illness or while waiting for an assessment of the gills. You should hold back on salt baths first though. They are only indicated when there is positive identification of fungus infection.

Cheers.

Ill do the tests for ammonia now and let you know. The temperature is 20 degrees and the ph is 7.2, so it all seems normal. I have not added any chemicals to the water except for a water ager, but as i understand that is good for the axolotl. I did however use filtered water which i have since learned is not a good idea as it does not contain the minerals which axies require to survive. I am slowly changing out the water 20% at a time and replacing it with tap water (which should contain the minerals). Should i see how he looks tomorrow and maybe put him in the fridge?

Thanks.

Hi Groldigger,

You can safely start fridging your axie now. Meanwhile you can take your time to check your main tank.

Cheers.
