Tank Setup

Hello,

I've had my Y Ju (Albino female) for about 2 months now and I've recently changed the gravel to sand since I have read gravel is bad for them ~

I have a filter and I check her water pH and Ammonia every week and give her about a 50% water change as well ~

I have nothing else in the tank......I find that live plants are a bit troublesome to have since they dirty the water easily and I will be getting a tunnel and rocks for her soon ~

I'd just like to ask.....what can I use in place of the live plants or which live plants are easy to manage ~

Her tank isn't very big (I will measure it when I get back home on Sunday night and post it here) and I want her to be a happy Axie ^_^ ~

Some suggestions please ~

Jaspie ~

fake plants!! most pet stores sell them and they look pretty realistic. i have about 6 of them and they look great!. i also have 3 plants that i let float since the axies like to float up with them every now and then.

Ok.....anything else to keep her company?

I was planning to get her a mate but my tank is quite small and I can't afford a bigger one yet ~

She's quite big now and I wasn't told how old she is ~ I think she is about 23cm.....not sure ~ Will measure her too ^_^ ~

Jaspie ~

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
