Hi

My female alpine newts are starting to lay their eggs, please let me know do they lay mainly at night??? or at anytime, its just that between 7pm and 11pm last night 1 female laid 6 eggs, but expecting there to be a fair few this morning, there was no additions. I am removing them as soon as laid and know that they can be eaten, but the type of weed she is laying into makes it almost impossible for them to find and they are all well fed on worms etc, so would have exepected to find at least a few.

Any ideas

I don´t keep this species so i´m not sure....but if they are anything like other salamandridae cousins, they will probably lay a bunch of eggs, rest for a couple of days, and then lay again. They sometimes seem to "stop" laying..and then come back with a bigger clutch, as if they are recharging energies hehe.
Congratulations and best of lucks!

I found my first alpine eggs in the morning, so the first ones were laid at night. But like Azhael said, they'll lay over a period of time, so sit back and enjoy the ride!

The words "schedule" and "egg laying" should probably not be used in the same sentence;) I've noticed that they tend to lay more eggs a couple of days after a good feeding, but other than that, I see no predictability in their output.
