I’ve had my axie for about a month now and she’s had this white splotch on her cheek since I got her. It isn’t fluffy or flakey so I don’t think it’s fungus? But I can’t find anything similar online
Also, in the photo from Sep. 20 the tips of her gills are changing color? They were brown like the rest of her and now today they are a bright red
Should I be worried?!

I'd say it's colouration. I don't think there's anything bad about the gills changing colour. I wonder if one of the parents were a copper or leucy? It could be where the gill colour is coming from. Wild's usually have purple gills, but I could be mistaken!

looks fine to me, as long as they aren't losing filaments or the gills are not curling

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
