Ambystoma mavortium & maculatum

Hey, i was just wandering how a Ambystoma mavortium and a Ambystoma mallacatum would react to being in the same enclosure? would the similar size and the relatively close relation prevent them from eating one another? Or might they just get territorial?

For one thing, Ambystoma mavortium and Ambystoma maculatum are not similar in size. Adult tigers are generally much larger. Although some Ambystomatids can be kept together, this mix would most likely end in tragedy. Also spotted salamanders are much more skiddish then tigers are. If you want both, I'd setup two different enclosures. Hope that answers your question!:D

I assume you mean A. mavortium and A. maculatum? The safest and most likely answer is a simple "no". There are some circumstances in which it could work, for some indeterminate period of time (until the tiger got too big or too tame), but there are a lot of "ifs" involved. How large is the enclosure? Do you know for sure the size of the animals (in other words, do you already own them, or are thinking of getting them)? How much risk are you willing to take?

I haven't already got them it isn't anything i was SERIOUSLY considering just something i thought i could do because i wanted to keep both and don't really have space or time to maintain two separate enclosures! if it was seriously going to endanger either of them and would take a lot of work to do i wont go ahead with it! maybe a few years from now! (thanks for spelling corrections!)

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
