Ok, I changed my water a few days ago, and their is some mysterious thing that is all colorful sitting at the top of the water. What can I do?

This is a very vague description.... a "mysterious thing" that is "all colorful". It could be a range of things from a dead fish to an oil slick to a multi-colored balloon. Perhaps you could elaborate in more detailed or even provide a photo.

The typical protein/oil slick can usually be combated with water current. Though it is tough to diagnose with a vague description.

Is it a film over the top of the water? If so, it can be removed with paper towels to a large degree but to prevent it, be diligent about removing uneaten food in the tank.

Ok, this problem is solved, I just had to get the water moving a little bit

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
