My axolotl is 13 years old, and tonight he seemed to be either 1. sort of stuck underneath one of his ornaments and having a panic attack and moving a lot and gasping for air or 2. He might have started the shaking and gasping for air while he just happened to be underneath one of his ornaments, and it had nothing to do wit the ornament?
Anyway, I picked the ornament ( large skull meant for aquariums) and released my axolotl.
He kept opening and closing his mouth a lot, and some air came out. This kept happening on and off for nearly an hour. I am not sure whether he was choking or having a panic attack or what, but it was very scary.
He seems to have stopped now, but his walking is still wobbly. His tail is still curved too, so he is stressed.
Any idea what could have caused it, or how to stop it from happening again?
His water etc is fine, but as I mentioned, he is very old, 13 years old.
