Hello Everyone.

I got this guy from a lfs during the holidays as they were having a huge sale but the Axolotls they had were in horrible condition. All short gills and nips around the body. They also had them in the same tank with goldfish..

Anyway I had this guy quarantined in case for a little before jumping to add him with the other lotls and he ate 9 pellets the first day on Christmas Eve. Since then he has not eaten and I had him fridged for the past 2 days. I took him out today and noticed he had a slightly swollen cloaca with some white strands or something of the sort. Is this a fungal infection on the cloaca? I have him in a tub with some almond leaves right now but I'm getting worried since he hasn't eaten since December 24th.

Thoughts? Should I start giving him salt baths?

Thanks.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
