Hallo everyone,
you think it is possible that the cross between two species of crested newt (specifically carnifex x dobrogicus) gives rise to a partially fertile offspring?
this may limit the loss of purity of the species in its native range in nature. In captivity it was found that hybridization between triturus marmoratus and triturus cristatus behaves in an only 12% of embryonic survival of specimens hybrids as compared with 45% of the pure species.
Between triturus carnifex x triturus dobrogicus there is some testimony among you?
the offspring has the same capacity to fertilize or decrease?
I'm curious.

Sorry for my bad english and sorry if I bored.

I know that T. carnifex and T. cristatus do hybridise to produce fertile offspring - it is a problem where carnifex has been introduced into the range of cristatus.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
