I found your group in my search to learn all I can about vivariums. I am an avid outdoor gardener and grower of houseplants. I fell in love with a crested gecko a few months ago and realized the opportunity to stretch my green thumb with growing miniature plants. I am really looking forward to making an impressive natural looking environment for the gecko AND I am getting pulled into the idea that I might need another enclosure for some dart frogs. I've had many pets over the years but these tiny creatures are new to me. Looking forward to learning more.

Hello! Welcome to the forum! We are happy to have you and please stay and read, but I wanted to let you know that a gecko is a lizard (reptile) and we are an amphibian (specifically newt and salamander) forum. But maybe this will lead you to a NEW hobby!

Of course on second reading maybe you knew all this and were just looking for tank ideas.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
