I have two T. verrucosus, which I hope are a male and female (Eddie and Elektra, I'm fond of posting their pictures). They seem to have no interest in the water. Elektra was born two seasons ago (2005), and Eddie was born last season (2006). Might they mate anyway, and if they do, would they maybe lay their eggs on land? Are there any signs I should look out for? Can someone tell me how old they have to be before they'll even be mature enough to mate? or is the fact that they aren't ready for water a sign that they aren't mature yet?
thanks for anything you can give me to go on.

Hi Dawn,
I had my T. verocusus for 2 or 3 years before they bred. I have always kept them in an aquatic set up with lots of large pieces of floating cork bark with hiding huts. At times they spend most of the time on the cork and at times most of the time in water. My guess is your verrocusus are to young to be sexed or breed. When breeding age and in breeding condition they aren't difficult to sex. Check out Tylototriton.org for some good info on Tylototriton.
T. verrocusus will lay eggs both on land and in water. Mine always lay in the spring.

Although they can lay eggs on land, the whole breeding ritual takes place in water. If they're mostly staying on land, it's pretty unlikely.
