Is my axolotl too skinny?

My babies are almost a month old now and seem very happy. I feed them bloodworms every other day. However, my mom noted that Mudkip's body was thinner than his head. Is this normal?

A juvie that size should be fed every day. And yes, he looks a little on the slim side.

It's true that an axolotl's belly should be as wide as it's head and your axolotl is a bit on the slim side.

However, all axies are different. My adult, Aries, is also a bit on the slim side (but not emaciated!) and will only eat one worm a feeding session. His tank mate, Saturn, however, has no problems downing 2-3 worms a feeding time and she's a bit on the fat side.

As auntiejude pointed out, at one month, your axie should be fed once a day. Also, have you tried feeding it earthworms?
I'm sure those two things will help fatten your little fellow up :)

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
