Morning all,

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of any amphibian specific events that regularly take place around the country? I'm always keen to touch base with other rescue services, keepers and specialists.

I am aware of the IHS breeders meets but surely there are others. Sadly Googling for events hasn't turned up much apart from lots of out-of-date information!

Thanks in advance from Grace's Rest: Lincolnshire Exotics Advice, Education and Rescue Service

There is always B.A.K.S meetings (British Amphibian Keepers), twice a year in Cannock

Their website:

B.A.K.S

and facebook link:

There are also several members of BAKS on here, including most of the commitee from what I can see. ;)

You could also check out SWARE (South Wales Amphibian and Reptile Expo), which is new and held in South Wales again twice a year. They are on facebook too and their website is:

S.W.A.R.E - Home

I hope to see you there

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
