Hello all:
I have been housing two groups of captive-bred sub adult alpine newts in semi-aquatic tubs. Initially all of the newts were spending the majority of time no the terrestrial side of the tanks.
About a month ago, several newts started spending increased amount of time in the water. Soon after, they started to lose coloration, lose weight, and generally appear ill. Then, they started dying. I moved them all to fully-terrestrial tanks, which saved them.
Now, the same procession of events is occurring in the other group. I've been paying very close attention to the water quality so I doubt that this is the issue. Any ideas of the culprit?
Cheers,
Dave
