Hello I'm new to Caudata but not to keeping salamanders. I have kept multiple different individual northwestern salamanders and their larvae in the past and present. I have done extensive research on them and other salamanders, newts, lizards and turtles. Currently I have one northwestern that I just metamorphed and two other larvae that are a bit difficult to identify. My next plan for the future is to breed two northwestern salamanders in captivity and have them lay eggs. I want to help people with the keeping of these salamanders and newts as well.

Keeper of: northwestern salamanders, northwestern alligator lizard, small ant farm, two dogs and one rabbit.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
