I was wondering if anyone knew of any reliable axolotl breeders in the US. My friend is trying to find one. I also want to know, because I'm considering one too... :talker:

There are plenty of reliable axolotl breeders on the site, and you can find some in the testimonial section of the forum. Kaysie Cox and Michael Shrom to name a couple.

Can you give me any web sites or e-mail adresses?

My axies are starting to breed for the year. I expect eventually to raise at least 2000 juveniles in 2009. I won't have many juveniles available till late winter or spring.

I've currently got eggs. It looks like I'll have a couple dozen juvies by late winter. I'm not quite as prolific as Michael, but then, I only have 2 adults.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
