Just thought I should mention the German tourist who tried to smuggle 40 skinks and gecko's out of NZ, has been jailed for 14 weeks and will be deported upon his release. I hope he wont continue to go on to other countries poaching their valued wildlife.

Best way of putting this:

"What is the first thing that happens when the discovery of a new species of herp, bird, fish, or invertebrate is announced?" The answer is "Two Germans get on a plane"

Found the actual quote:
There is a joke among reptile smugglers: what's the first thing that happens when a new reptile or amphibian species is discovered? Answer: two Germans buy plane tickets.
with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
