Hello! I was just wondering if anyone out there on Caudata.org has had any experience in relocating with their axolotl. My husband and I will likely be relocating to Germany from Australia in the next year and a half. It's a bit of a ways away, but I am already stressing and one for forward planning. Sheldon, our golden axie is going on 7 years old and is considered part of the family and we'd love to take him. I am aware axolotls are on the CITES endangered species list and would require a permit to bring him out of the country; we are still waiting to hear back from one of the pet travel service providers to see if they transport axolotls...if it's not possible, or if there is a big chance of him not surviving the relocation process then our only other option would be to re-home him (preferably with someone familiar with axolotl care and access to am air conditioner during the summer months). Any advice on axolotl relocating (from Australia to Germany) or re-homing (in Adelaide, SA) would be most appreciated! Thank you in advance!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
