Hey guys, new to this place, and hopefully soon to be new to amphibians.

The reason I am here is that I find myself in possession of a freebie tank, but it's quite small at 16"Lx8"Dx10"H.

I was told on a reptile forum that it may be big enough for some newts or smaller species salamanders, so I thought i'd pop on here for a second opinion and also to see which is easiest to look after etc.

So any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

G

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

Unfortunately, if i´m correct, your tank is about 20l in volume which means it´s half the bare minimum of 40l that are recommended for even a single individual of a small aquatic species. It could work for juveniles or as a temporary tank for a small terrestrial species, but i wouldn´t use it for any aquatic species at all, it´s too small.

I have a tank the same size, unfortunately azheal is right it is too small. I use mine as one of my larva tanks

any chance you could private message me the name of the forum sounds like they could use a new, newt perspective

dont post it on the forum though it will just get deleted

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
