Greetings fellow amphibians. I, Newt Overlord, have been lurking in the wings of caudata.org for far too long. At last I have motivated to post to this august body of knowledgeable newts and salamanders! Hear my voice and tremble!

Acquired by a frenetic male house-ape in the year 1988, I have ruled over his house for nearly Thirty Years come this October. Any other amphibians here of such a venerable age? Or am I the only one?

Newt Overlord, I think that you'll find quite a few people here of similar vintage to yourself. I find that caudates tend to attract the more seasoned and mature herp hobbyists, whereas the young 'uns these days tend to be more interested in things like bearded dragons and ball pythons.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
