S.s.terrestris subadult pair


female was bulky and eats good, but skinny male doesn't shows any sign of eating.

Should I separate them and try new feeders?
(female likes slugs and small crickets)

Hello megasquid, how did you get on? Is your salamander feeding now? I'd be interested in knowing.
I've got some which don't like disturbance and prefer coming out after dark when they think I'm not about. I can't decide if this is due to reverting back to instinct because they are in a 'natural' set up with lots of places to hide or, worryingly, they weren't captive bred in the first place.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
