Now that winter is coming, I was wondering what is a good temperature to keep my baby salamanders? and should i use a heating lamp? I do not have a heater in my room and I live in north Idaho where it gets pretty cold. Any help is greatly appreciated :)

No heat is necessary. These guys hibernate in the wild, so in your house i imagine it wont be any colder :p Just add a small area for him to go under the substrate - a PVC pipe going into the ground should work well.

Yup, salamanders generally thrive in lower temperatures. I can't imagine your house getting any colder than 60 degrees F, and even so, salamanders in general would be fine with lower temperatures than that.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
