Hi all, I'll be acquiring a group of 5 terrestrial juvenile chinensis and I'd like to know what temps should I keep them at? I searched but info on these guys is really minimal. Also are they good feeders? I'll be offering small red runner roaches and earthworm pieces. Thanks for any input!

The most up to date information I can find on raising baby Chinensis recommends treating them like juvenile Laotriton.
Basically, damp paper towel substrate with a pile of leaf litter at one end for hiding. I've used the same method for Japanese Cynops species and it works very well. I normally offer chopped small nightcrawllers, whiteworms or live bloodworm with multivitamin supplement to terrestrial babies and havent had any problems. I've no experience feeding roaches so I don't know if they will catch them, but unlike Laotriton they will use their tongues when hunting so it's worth trying for sure.
Good luck with them, I think Paramesotriton will become very scarce in the hobby now the wild caught adults are drying up.

Thanks for your reply! I had no idea these guys use their tongues when hunting! I know they're becoming more scarce that's why I decided to keep them. I will use damp paper towels and dead oak leaves and if they'll accept, I prefer to tong feed them individually to better monitor their food income. Small roaches might be too fast for them but they might eat them off the tongs.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
