Default Safe water treatments

Hi,

I am looking for an alternative, safe method to condition water for all amphibian species. Currently using the expensive water filters that pretty much strip everything out but as the water in the city where I work is full of chloramine and nitrite then they are used up pretty fast.

I was hoping to look into using Amquel+ (which I know from previous discussions on here a few years ago) is supposed to be safe, even for newt larvae), but I am still concerned about other contaminants.

I was thinking about Novaqua as an extra treatment to help bind heavy metals and such, or possibly creating a filter of activated carbon to remove these things and other unwanted nasties.

Does anyone know if Novaqua is also safe for everything from eggs/larvae to adults?
Also, does anyone have a proven regimen to treat their water with conditioners and perhaps charcoal that they could share?

Thanks so much.

Rachel
