My name is Sarah, Im a newbie and I have semi-recently aquired 2 Axolotls.

I live in Newberg Oregon with my dilute tordi kitten, Calypso and my best friend Lauren. I am an avid reader and a bit of a beast at water polo but my true passion lies with animals.

My Axies are gold and black and their names are Abott and Costello. They are still only about 4-5 inches long and I have had them for about 3 months now. I keep coming up with questions about them so I figured this was a good place to find some answers from people who know what they are doing.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
