Hello I have been searching for some Shanjing to add to my collection. When I got my first 2 it seemed as if all the breeders and pet stores had them. So I got a couple to start with because I wasn't sure how difficult the species were to keep. Turns out I have had good luck with the 2. I have and started looking for more to add to my collection in hopes of trying to breed them. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any in the U.S. and was wondering if there was a reason why they aren't available anymore. If anyone has any answers as to why or happens to know anyone with any for sale, I would greatly appreciate you help.
Thanks Mark

They have been overharvested and for the last several years have largely been replaced by T.yangi in the WC trade. In the last couple of years there have been a small number of batches of T.shanjing, T.taliangensis, and animals sold as T.asperrimus which were likely T.lizhenchangi or a mix of species.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
