Well if they just morphed then it's absolutely normal that they are not eating. They may take a few days, even a couple of weeks, to settle and start their new diet.
Anyway, crickets should be fine as long as they are the apropriate size, but you can also give them fruitflies (as Kerry mentioned), isopods or springtails.

Whether you feed them fruit flies or pinhead crickets the feeder item of choice will need to be dusted with calcium 3-4 times a week and dusted with vitamins at least twice a week until they are a few months of age. In addition, the crickets will need to be gut-loaded at least 4 hours before they are fed to the froglets.

They'll feed 3-4 days after they completely absorb their tail. Diets (that are moving) the width of their eyes will do.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
