Only one of my axolotl's eggs has hatched so far, to reveal a cute little wildtype baby
He only hatched this morning- I have a plan to go down to a lake/pond I know and search for daphina, rinse them.. and put the small ones in with him to nibble.

Is this a good plan? What alternatives could I try?
Thank-you for your help and opinions

lol, i think you'd be looking all day in a lake....plus if you get them from a lake they could have toxins in them. Your probably best off buying some from a shop ooorrrr i dont know if you can do this but i feed my big axie it now and again and hes fine, you could try floating fish flakes. If you crumble them up then they should be ok

Are you speaking from experience or just personal opinion?
A breeder advised me that getting live daphnia from a lake is fine as long as the lake itself is looking good and I rinse the daphnia before feeding them to 'Squirt'.

Fish flakes aren't really a good meal for a growing baby.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
