I’m quite new to owning amphibians, I had freshwater fish growing up so I’m familiar enough with tank management but I joined this forum so I could maybe get a little more insight into what these tiny dudes need.
I was in the process of researching Axolotls when I found a local guy selling 2 inch goldens and wilds at 3/$10, I jumped at the deal and when I went to pick them up the guy just scooped up a cup of juveniles and I ended up with 5. 2 Golden Albino, 1 GFP Golden albino, and 2 wilds (one GFP).
I am in the process of cycling a 20 gallon tank for them and they are currently separated into uncycled temporary tanks by size, im using a lot of the resources I found with this site and I hope to keep all 5 in good health.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
