Hi my name is Rosie. I am a new Axolotl owner to a little “guy” named Sebastian. He’s not a fancy boy in any way. My dad bought him at a bait shop and I couldn’t let him get eaten. He just has too cute of a face. Unfortunately I have no idea how to take care of him. He’s doing really well I think. He’s round and active. But his tank is cloudy and I’m not sure if I’m using all of my tools correctly.

He’s currently got a tiki head to hide in and a turtle filter that someone told me works great for his kind. I’m using the top of the tiki to disperse the water that comes out of the ‘out tube’. And a water conditioner with every water change. But the ammonia is still really high. I have snails and a plecostomus. I’m really worried for my little guy. He’s eating blood worms and krill ever other day and is pooping.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
