Hey!

I got two cynops orientalis and one pleurodeles waltl.. And I was wondering about feeding of them. Yes, I know there is a lot of topics of this, but I didn't find anything that answered this question on this site;
Is it O.K. to feed the newts turtle pellets? I have given it to them, and they seem to like it (eat it, swallows it and poop it out!:p) but is it good for them? I know the ingredients is; fish, crab, shrimps and some other things which I don't remember right now, do you think it sounds O.K. with the ingredients?

Hoping for an answer,
Fredrik/Freik

I'm sure a few turtle pellets are fine; the consensus here, however, is that earthworms make the best food. You may have to cut them up a bit but bigger newts will suck them down like spaghetti. I think a lot of people feed their newts newt pellets or newt sticks, if you can your newts to eat them.
Good Luck!

Ok, thanks for the answer!;) I'll continue giving them both earthworms and turtle pellets then, they seem to like the pellets a lot at least.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
